Note:  In 1945 Goeritz did a series of paintings and drawings which he described as “Expressionist Paintings.” A work closely related to this one is illustrated in Lily Kassner, Mathias Goeritz, Obra 1915-1990, p. 19, no. 50.  According to Kassner, both works may be self-portraits of the artist.
